MOUNTAINEERING

East Africa has two of the highest freestanding mountains in the world. Mt. Kilimanjaro is the highest in Africa at 5,896m (19,344ft) and Mt. Kenya is the second highest at 4,985m (17,058ft). Climbers need to be reasonably fit and fully equipped before starting the climb. However, those who do not have full gear can hire from the base of each mountain. For Mt.Kenya, equipments can be hired from Nanyuki or Naro Moru and for Mt. Kilimanjaro; equipments can be hired from Moshi. We have qualified and experienced guides, porters and cooks who are well familiar with all the routings for over 5 years.

Mt. KenyaMT. KENYA CLIMBING

Mount Kenya is a broad, large symmetrical volcano cone whose diameter at the base is about 12 km it was formed between 2.6 and 3.1 million years ago by eruptions of successive layers of volcanic lava and agglomerate from a central vent in the earth surface. Mount Kenya is climbed at all times of year if possible however it is best to try to avoid the two rainy seasons that usually start in mid March and lasts through till mid June. As on any high mountain, proper equipment is vital for a safe and enjoyable climb. Even with porters, climbers should carry some basic equipment with them at all times, including rain gear, spare jersey, water and first aid kit.

High altitude problems are caused through the inability of the human body to adjust to a through various forms to the often more fatal pulmonary and cerebral oedemus (Hape and Hace) the later being less common. Young males seem to be most badly affected.

These safaris certainly gives you a good taste of the best parks Kenya has to offer and is a must for wildlife enthusiasts.

Mt. KilimanjaroMT. Kilimanjaro Tanzania

Location: 3.07 S, 37.35 E
Elevation: 19,335.6ft (5,895m)

At 5,895m, Mt. Kilimanjaro is the highest point on the continent, earning it the title "The Roof of Africa." Its snow-covered peaks have fascinated locals and visitors for years: from Ernest Hemingway, who called the mountain "as wide as all the world", to the local tribes, who call it Kilema Kyaro -- "that which cannot be conquered."

Mt. Kilimanjaro also draws hundreds of people to its grassy slopes each year, attracted by the possibility of climbing such a formidable mountain without the need for technical equipment. Kilimanjaro's peak, Kibo, is a giant crater, and reachable by anyone in fairly good shape.

At the base of the mountain is the Kilimanjaro National Park, a lush rainforest that is home to many animals including Cape buffalo, elephants, monkeys and leopards. As you ascend the mountain the greenery changes to low-lying grasses, heather and groundsels, and finally to the snowy glacier covering Kilimanjaro's peak. The best time to climb the mountain are the drier months of January, February and September.

Although anyone who is reasonably fit can climb Kilimanjaro, you must train before your trip, be prepared by bringing the proper clothing and equipment and be aware of the possible health risks associated with climbing at such a high altitude.

Mt. MeruMT. MERU

Mount Meru is one of Africa's most beautiful volcanoes, and it is the second highest mountain in Tanzania at 4,5685m, the fifth highest in Africa.
The mountain is located within Arusha National Park, Tanzania’s gem. This prime location gives walkers the opportunity to spot some of the birds and wildlife that inhabit the area. The ascend is quite steep, the route to the summit passes over streams, through parkland, montane forest, a giant heather zone and moorland. The summit is reached by a narrow, barren ridge, which provides stunning views of the Ash Cone lying several thousand feet below in the crater. Weather permitting, Kilimanjaro can be seen in the West. There are two huts available to climbers on the mountain and firewood is supplied. The best time to climb Meru is between October and February. But also June to September, while it is colder then.
