BOAX
45 - Camel Safari (7 Days)
These
are not luxury safaris, nor rough and uncomfortable. You travel
through unspoilt areas of north central Kenya-Samburu. Local Samburu
people guide you. The safari is led by local warriors some of
whom can inform you of the local customs and explain what you
can see as you trek along. It is not arduous; you may walk or
ride supplies plus any personal needs such as beers, spirits and
sodas that you may purchase from the Clubhouse before departing.
The camp and shower are erected for you and the cook will keep
you well fed for the day's activities. Each afternoon you are
free to join a nature walk accompanied by Samburu warriors through
the bush.
Day
1: Nairobi – Maralal After
breakfast, depart from our Nairobi offices traveling via Nyahururu.
Rumuruti to our Maralal Camel club for overnight in self contained
bandas cottages.
Day 2: Camel
Trekking – Walking After
breakfast depart with your camels and Morans into the bush. You
will ride through the area never quite sure what you will see.
It should be remembered that this safari is not primarily a game-viewing
safari. It is one led by and in total harmony with the local Samburu
people. Picnic lunch en-route, afternoon arrival at your pre-prepared
camp where your cook will be ready to offer you afternoon tea
and snacks. Thereafter, an optional guided walk through the bush
before dinner and overnight under the stars.
Day
3, 4 & 5: Camel Trekking – Walking Mattresses
pad, the locally wooden frames on the camels, and after breakfast
you are set and through the bush either hiking or walking as you
choose. It is a leisurely pace and you may change from walking
to hiking, as you prefer. You will pass by Samburu Manyattas that
your lead Moran can organize for you to visit. As this is spontaneous,
the Morans will discuss with the elders for permission for your
entry and you will be asked to pay something towards the family
for photography and viewing their homes. This is not always included
in the safari cost and is only a small amount offered as a courtesy.
Each day you will have a picnic lunch in the bush, then combine
to your next campsite, where your cook will be waiting for you.
Greater part of your evening shall be spent beside water and a
shower will be erected for you to dust off (depending on water
availability).
Day 6: End of Camel Trek The
camel trek ends late morning back at the Clubhouse. Here you will
take lunch before walking with your Moran guides into the frontier
town of Maralal . The art crafts to see, the Samburu market and
a way of life different from other places you might have visited
on your holiday. In the evening, the Morans and their ladies will
perform dances for you as entertainment at the Club where you
will be free to take as many pictures as you want even to join
in the dancing if you feel up to it. This night you are in the
bandas again and can clean up before your free return transfer
in the morning.
Day 7: Maralal – Nairobi After
breakfast, transfer back to Nairobi . You are expected to arrive
in Nairobi usually in the late afternoon. Lunch is not included
